Frequently asked questions

How do I earn hours?

Observational hours can be earned within the 12-week intensive course which is integrated into our program as well as throughout your supervision with case studies and virtual shadowing.

Direct hours are earned by working with clients. While supervisors offer some direct hours each week, working with and in support of their clients, candidates are responsible for finding their own clients as well.

Candidates can apply for a telehealth clinical internship at BioLounge or one of our other satellite clinics after 6 months of experience (we will allow for prior nutrition coaching or other client-facing experience to apply) and after the completion of at least 6 Personalized Nutrition Case studies. Many of our prior candidates work with family, friends and acquaintances for the first 6 months to gain experience.

What type of clients will I be exposed to by my supervisors?

Supervisors work with clients ranging from basic nutrition support to complex and chronic health conditions ranging from “mystery symptoms” to cancer, Parkinson’s disease, cognitive decline, autoimmunity, gut dysbiosis, hormone imbalance and peri/menopause, and metabolic and endocrine disorders.

What tools will I have access to?

We share important practice documents as well as therapeutic food plans, intake forms, handouts and more. In addition, guide you to our favorite labs and instruct you on accessing available labs and testing.

Will I have the opportunity to observe appointments?

CNS Supervision includes recordings of over 70 appointments with patients for observational hours.

Will I get practice creating treatment plans?

There will be weekly opportunities within the program to create and discuss treatment plans for our patients.

When will the live meetings take place?

Weekly grand rounds are held via Zoom at 12pm PST on Mondays.

What will happen during the live Zoom meetings?

We will discuss patient cases, personalized and MNT topics, answer candidate questions, and guide group discussions.

What happens if I miss a meeting?

All live meetings will be recorded and uploaded within 24 hours for you to review.

How long do I have access to the materials in the Clinical Intensive program?

You have access for up to 12 months after the completion of your program.

I'm not sure if this program is a right fit for me. What do you recommend?

Book a 30-minute exploratory call with Megan Barnett, MS, CNS, so that she can answer your questions and help you determine if this program is a good fit for you.

What if I decide the program’s not for me after I enroll or I need a break?

You have two options:

Leave of absence
Candidates can take one extended leave of absence up to 6 months without re-applying for the CNIP. Payment will be suspended during this time and all records will be bound within the program database.  No hours can be earned during this time. To re-enter the program, candidates must provide 30-day notice if leave is less than 6 months. Candidates will automatically be re-enrolled at 6 months unless a formal program withdrawal is requested.

Formal program withdrawal
If, for whatever reason, a candidate wishes to withdraw from the program, the candidate must provide a 30-day notice to withdraw with an explanation. Within the 30-day withdrawal period, a 60-minute exit interview will be required to review and sign off on accrued hours and complete an exit survey. Candidates are free to withdraw for any reason if the program no longer meets their goals, however, they will forfeit access to shared drives, program resources and the ability to have completed CNS competencies signed off by their supervisor.  All accrued hours, however, will be reviewed and signed off if candidate requirements have been met up until the time of withdrawal. Supervisor competency verification is contingent upon satisfactory completion of program requirements and accurate submission of required documentation and 1,000 supervised hours.
